EYE CARE AWARENESS WEEK 5 – 9 OCTOBER 2009 INTRODUCTION Ophthalmologists, both in private practice and in public employment made a significant contribution to the 2008 Eye Care Awareness Week’s goal of reducing the incidence of cataract blindness in South Africa. Below are the relevant statistics that speak volumes about Ophthalmology’s continuing efforts to help the less fortunate members of our society.
